bio

Alasdair was born in the Highland village of Laggan Bridge, Inverness-shire, Scotland in 1964 and also raised in St Andrews, Fife.

He trained professionally as a sculptor at Gray's School of Art, Aberdeen then undertook a further post graduate course in Public Art & Design at Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee.

His wood-based practice is simple in its design.  Inspiration and influence comes from a number of sources that includes; the natural environment, traditional Japanese Arts & Crafts, observing the work of artists such as Isamu Noguchi and Constantin Brancusi to following the Minimalist art and architecture movement.  He has a love for the tactility of basic materials, often combining wood, lead or even concrete to allow subtle interplays between colour and texture.
